Officer's Meeting - August 13, 2020
In attendance: Woody Matthews, Colton Knight, James Perry, Kathy Warth, Mike Wells, Alton Palmore, Dan Scipal, Ardis Basen, Orlando Remirez,
Colton opened the meeting expressing a need to hold a vote on distributing some relief funds to the hardest hit vendors during the pandemic. This topic was discussed at the last meeting; however, the officers did not vote to approve the allocation of funds. The number of individuals in need of assistance rose to nine since the last meeting. Colton told the group about a $1000 donation from a vendor to help in this effort. Colton further expressed his issues with setting up the RSVF on Facebook charity tools as well as Go Fund Me. The issue was due to the FEIN number provided to the RSVF. Both organizations were not recognizing our 501C3 status. Woody interjected by reiterating that there were nine individuals who the RSVF wanted to send $100 gift cards to. He asked the officers if it was all right to keep the names private. Colton made a motion to keep the names private, Alton seconded the motion, and it passed without objection.
Alton began talking about the COVID 19 challenge he was heading up. With the $1000 donation from one of the vendors, he decided to challenge all the vendors that could afford to match that donation. Alton told the group that the website was set up to accept donations using PayPal.
Woody began discussing PayPal, and the issues we have had with them. When Woody became president of the RSVF, he established a PayPal, which is under his name personally. He expressed frustration with PayPal, because they were not recognizing our 501C3 status, and as a result, we were unable to convert the PayPal from Woody’s name to the RSVF.
James Perry briefly talked about spreading the word about the RSVF. He explained that we could increase donations by spreading the word in our communities and on social media.
Woody asked the group to make a motion to allocate $1000 in the form of ten $100 gift cards for vendors struggling, and he also asked to approve a $100 expense for business cards. Both motions passed unanimously.
A few different conversations occurred, mostly a reiteration of our goals to work with the public school system, and helping the vendors impacted by the pandemic.
Woody introduced Ardis Basen, the 2nd vice president of RSVA.
Ardis talked about Vendor Scope, RSVA’s publication and asked that if anyone wants to submit an article, she would publish it. She ten asked what things the SLA has done to help vendors impacted by the pandemic. The group had a discussion about the financial assistance and safety precaution’s the SLA put into place. She finished by saying that RSVA was doing what they could to work with states during this pandemic and encouraged individuals on the call to subscribe to the Vendor Scope.
Woody asked Ardis and Dan if they had any questions. Dan made a few comments about our efforts, and very much liked our efforts with FSDB. He went on to remind people that they could still open a case with DBS, and they might be able to assist vendors who were impacted by the pandemic.
The last few discussions were about the committee meeting, things we wanted to bring to their attention. The group also discussed getting out the gift cards that were voted on earlier in the call.
Woody made a motion to adjourn the meeting, James seconded the motion. The motion was passed unanimously, and the meeting was adjourned.
